Preliminary Trends of the Public Consultation on Standards in the Digital Single Market

Preliminary trends are observed in the public consultation on Standards in the Digital Single Market. This consultation relates to developing standards and interoperability in the ICT domain. Stakeholders' views are very important to identify problems and obtain possible future priority-setting policy on ICT standardisation.

The preliminary trends highlight the importance of promoting timely standard-setting processes reflecting European interests, defining priorities to organise standardisation work effectively. In addition, stakeholders agree on the importance of improving ICT standardisation ecosystem and on reinforcing European presence in global standardisation. Some respondents proposed additional measures, such as the definition of a clear political framework for competition and interoperability for digital products and services, the establishment of objectives, and the support for SMEs and research centres to participate in standardisation. However, many expect that Prioritisation of ICT Standardisation will positively impact on Europe's attempt to pursue leadership in global standard-settings.

The next step will be an in-depth analysis of the replies by the European commission and a full report will be published online.
